Bowling and nine-pin have something in common, but also significant differences. Here you will find the most important rules.

Frame

A strike was thrown. For this you get 10 points plus the points of the next two throws, here again 10 points, makes 20.

A spare was thrown. This counts 10 points plus the points of the next throw (5), in total 35.

43 points plus 10 points for the strike. Add the points from the next two rolls, in this case two more strikes, for an extra 20 points. Score: 73.

Important terms

Pins

The "cones" in bowling are called pins. There are 10 pins, one more than in ninepin bowling. You get one point for each pin you knock over.

Spare

If all 10 pins are knocked over in one round (i.e. with two rolls), it is called a spare. This bowling rule brings 10 points plus the points of the next roll. The spare is indicated by a cross "/".

Frame

Frame refers to the current round. A bowling game consists of 10 frames. Per frame you have two attempts to knock down all 10 pins.

Turkey

Three strikes in a row are called Turkey. However, this doesn’t happen often with hobby bowlers.

Strike

If all 10 pins (cones) are knocked down with the first roll, it is called a strike. You get 10 points for this plus the points you get with the next two rolls. The strike is indicated by an “X”.
